TG Builders’ Merchants Supports Award-Winning Myddlewood Housing Development

Staff from TG Builders’ Merchants have played a key role in helping a Shropshire-based development win a prestigious regional award.

KY Developments, led by Karen Young, scooped the Best Small New Housing Development award at the LABC West Midlands Building Excellence Awards for a project in Myddlewood. The win recognises outstanding construction quality, innovation, and teamwork.

A First Development That’s Built to Last

The award-winning development transformed a disused haulage yard—once home to metal units, concrete, and diesel tanks—into three stylish four-bedroom family homes.

“This was my first full development,” said Karen Young, owner of KY Developments. “I’ve done self-builds before, but this was on a completely different scale. I can’t thank the TG Builders’ Merchants team enough for their advice, support, and the excellent quality of the materials they supplied throughout the build.”

Despite juggling the demands of the project with a part-time job and raising two teenagers, Karen brought together a trusted team of tradespeople to deliver the project to an extremely high standard—so high, in fact, that Shropshire Building Control encouraged her to enter the awards.

From Shropshire to the National Stage

Following the regional win, KY Developments will now head to the LABC National Building Excellence Awards in London this November, representing the West Midlands on the UK stage.
